The government has made the Pan Aadhaar link mandatory for filing Income Tax Return (ITR). If PAN is not linked with your Aadhaar, then you cannot use financial transactions such as the opening of a bank account, pension, scholarship, LPG subsidy etc.

How to link Aadhaar with PAN card?
Step 1: First, go to the Income Tax Department e-filing portal – incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in website.
Step 2: Below the Quick Links section on the left side of the page, click on the option “Link Aadhaar”.
Step 3: In the form available here, fill your PAN number, Aadhaar number and Aadhaar name.
Step 4: If your Aadhaar card has only the year of birth, then click on the check box. Then also click on the check box to agree to validate your Aadhaar details with UIDAI.
Step 5: Enter the Captcha code on your screen and click on the Link Aadhaar button.
Step 6: Now a message like this will show in front of you and PAN base linking will be completed.

How to check PAN Aadhaar Link status?
There are people who have done PAN Aadhaar linking, but to check whether their PAN is linked with the Aadhaar number, follow the steps given below to see if their PAN is linked with Aadhaar number.
- Go to the website of the Income Tax Department, Link Aadhaar Status.
- Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number here and click on ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’.
- Now your PAN Aadhaar link status will be displayed on the computer monitor.

Last date for link Aadhaar with PAN card
The deadline to add or link an Aadhaar card from Permanent Account Number (PAN) is 31 March 2021. You will have to pay a fine of up to Rs 1,000 and the PAN card will also become invalid for not doing so within the time limit.
If your PAN-Aadhaar number is not linked and you try to open an account with a bank or withdraw cash of more than Rs 50,000, then you need to provide your PAN card. If you give incorrect or inactive PAN, you can be fined up to Rs 10,000.
